Cambodia Joins New World AI Alliance

Phnom penh: Cambodia became one of the 29 founding members of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisations (WAICO), following the signing of the agreement establishing the new international organisation on July 16, 2026, in Shanghai, China.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Dr. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, signed the agreement on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia during a ceremony attended by Chinese Foreign Minister, H.E. Wang Yi, representatives of the Government of China, participating countries, and international organisations, including the United Nations.

Headquartered in Shanghai, the organisation aims to promote the safe, fair, and responsible development of AI through international cooperation, extensive consultation, and shared benefits, while supporting AI applications that contribute to sustainable development and the well-being of people worldwide.

Cambodia's participation as a founding member reflects its continued commitment to advancing digital transformation and expanding international cooperation in emerging technologies.

WAICO brings together 29 founding member countries to enhance international collaboration on AI governance and foster innovation that benefits all humanity.
