Phnom penh: Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border issues with Thailand through peaceful means and in accordance with international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) said in a statement released this evening. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in response to media enquiries regarding the recent developments on the Cambodia-Thailand border, the Spokesperson of the MFAIC reiterated Cambodia's dedication to peaceful resolution. The statement highlighted that the principles outlined by the Joint Information Centre on the Thailand-Cambodia Situation on 19 March 2026 align with Cambodia's longstanding approach based on international law. The MFAIC emphasized the role of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) as the authoritative body tasked with defining the boundary line between Cambodia and Thailand. The importance of the JBC's role was underscored in the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on 27 Decem ber 2025. The statement stressed that resuming survey and demarcation works is vital for achieving lasting peace along the border. Cambodia expressed readiness to resume work based on historical treaties and maps to prevent future conflicts. The statement also highlighted the crucial role of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in verifying compliance with the Joint Statement of 27 December 2025. Cambodia remains committed to strengthening direct communication channels to prevent misinformation and ensure that discussions are based on verifiable facts. As a neighboring country and fellow ASEAN Member State, Cambodia is prepared to engage in discussions through existing mechanisms to resolve differences. The statement called for a transition from diplomatic expressions to concrete implementation, emphasizing the activation of the JBC, GBC, and Regional Border Committee (RBC) frameworks as essential for securing lasting peace and shared prosperity.
