Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Turning Border with Thailand into Zone of Peace, Friendship, and Cooperation

Phnom penh: Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, convened a diplomatic briefing for the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Kingdom of Cambodia on Nov. 8 at the Ministry. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Deputy Prime Minister provided an update on the implementation of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration on Peace, Cooperation and Prosperity, signed on Oct. 26, 2025. He stressed that the document serves as a basis for rebuilding trust, peace, and cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand, reaffirming the shared commitment for peaceful resolution of disputes, refraining from the use of force, respect for international law, and mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence. H.E. PRAK Sokhonn outlined some priority areas agreed under the Declaration, including the release of Cambodian soldiers, withdrawal of heavy weapons, humanitarian demining, peaceful settlement of boundary issues, cooperation on co mbating transnational crimes, and the process for normalization of diplomatic relations. These steps are seen as essential towards rebuilding trust and restoring normal relations between Cambodia and Thailand. He emphasized Cambodia's faithful implementation of its commitments and readiness to work in close coordination with Thailand for the common interest of the two countries and peoples. He further underlined Cambodia's appreciation to Malaysia as Chair, the United States, China, and all friends and partners for their constructive support in realizing the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration. The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming Cambodia's commitment to transforming the Cambodia-Thailand border into a zone of peace, friendship, and cooperation, in full respect of international law and the ASEAN principles and spirit. During the briefing, Senior Officials from concerned ministries and institutions provided the Diplomatic Corps with more specific details on the rules, procedures , and Action Plan agreed by the two sides regarding heavy weaponry withdrawal and humanitarian demining.
