Cambodia: Cambodia has been named the guest of honour at the 19th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, scheduled to take place from August 24 to 29, 2026, in France. The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in France, in partnership with the festival organisers, held a press conference at the Charles Floquet Residence in Paris on July 9 to present this year's edition and showcase Cambodian cinema. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodian Ambassador to France H.E. Luy David expressed his pride that Cambodia had been chosen for the distinction. He noted that the recognition carries special significance just months before the Kingdom hosts the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh. The ambassador highlighted the honour as a tribute to His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, one of the founding fathers of the Francophonie and a prominent figure in Cambodian cinema. The late King-Father, who was a writer, director, producer, and actor, regarded cinema as a powerful means of fostering dialog ue among peoples and promoting Cambodian culture, as explained by H.E. Luy David. The Ambassador also underscored the history of Cambodian cinema, from its golden age in the 1960s to its current revival led by a new generation of filmmakers who are helping raise Cambodia's profile on the international stage. Cambodia is set to host the 20th Francophonie Summit on November 15-16, 2026. This event will bring together heads of state and government, along with representatives from around 90 Francophone countries and institutions.
