Phnom penh: Leaders from Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos have agreed to bolster border security and enhance trade cooperation to benefit their respective populations.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this commitment was declared during a trilateral summit held on February 6, 2026, at the 7 January Palace in Phnom Penh. The summit included the participation of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party; H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam; and H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, along with prime ministers, parliamentary leaders, and senior officials from the three countries.
The discussions at the summit focused on expanding and strengthening cooperation in defence, trade, economic development, and cultural sectors. The leaders also emphasized the importance of collaboration among future generations to maintain traditional ties and friendships.
Border security and stability were acknowledged as key priorities. The leaders commended the current cooperation, which has been instrumental in maintaining peace and security along shared borders. They agreed to intensify joint efforts to combat cross-border crime and ensure long-term stability.
Cambodia is conducting a series of bilateral and trilateral summits from February 6-7, 2026, to promote traditional friendship, solidarity, and cooperation among the ruling parties of Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos, in support of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
