Phnom penh: Cambodia's justice and security chiefs held an emergency-level meeting on Tuesday, vowing to deploy "aggressive legal and operational solutions" to annihilate the cyber-scam networks plaguing the nation.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister H.E. Koeut Rith and Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, who is also the Chairman of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS). The session concentrated on addressing real-world enforcement bottlenecks and the increasing sophistication of transnational fraud rings.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed that the officials are advocating for comprehensive capability upgrades across all courts and prosecutors' offices. The aim is to expedite prosecutions and close legal loopholes that scammers currently exploit.
The ultimate objective is the complete eradication of tech-driven fraud within Cambodia, as well as establishing a robust defense against foreign syndicates that use the country as a base for their operations. "We are deploying every legal and operational tool available," the Ministry stated, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy moving forward.
