Cambodia Welcomes Malaysia’s Initiative for a Ceasefire Tonight

Phnom penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet announced that Cambodia supports Malaysia's initiative for a ceasefire tonight, as per his message released on social media this afternoon. 'Cambodia welcomes and supports the initiative of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia for a ceasefire tonight, which will be monitored by ASEAN Observation Team (AOT) with participation of the United States,' he stated.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the message was released following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's Facebook post detailing his discussions with U.S. President Donald J. Trump, and separate calls with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia. During these exchanges, Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia's concern over the situation and urged all parties to exercise restraint and cease hostilities, effective from December 13, 2025, at 22:00 (UTC+7).

To facilitate de-escalation and transparency, Anwar Ibrahim requested the deployment of the AOT, led by the Malaysian Chief of Defence Forces, to monitor the situation. This mission will be supported by satellite monitoring from the United States Government, starting simultaneously.

The AOT will compile findings from satellite monitoring and field observations to be presented at an ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on December 16. This report aims to provide an objective account of the situation, detailing the positions of both parties to foster accountability, confidence-building, and preservation of regional peace and stability.

Anwar Ibrahim emphasized Malaysia's commitment to working closely with ASEAN and the international community to ensure that dialogue, restraint, and diplomacy are prioritized.
