Phnom penh: The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia has rejected publications by Thailand's 'Army Region 2' page regarding landmine issues, describing them as fake news and distortions of the truth.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry emphasized that the publications from the 'Army Region 2' page reflect unprofessional conduct and disseminate false and misleading information. In a statement released this afternoon, the Ministry firmly denied the accusations made by the Thai side.
The Ministry highlighted Cambodia's strict adherence to international law, asserting that no new landmines have been laid. Instead, Cambodia has been actively engaged in clearing residual mines left over from past conflicts to protect the lives and safety of its citizens and to promote social and economic development. Additionally, Cambodia participates in mine clearance activities under the framework of the United Nations.
Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to respecting and implementing the ceasefire and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, in the spirit of good faith and responsibility. The Kingdom consistently upholds all obligations under international law, particularly international humanitarian law.
