Cambodian Foreign Minister to Attend the the Friends of the Mekong Ministerial Meeting

Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will participate in the Friends of the Mekong Ministerial Meeting (FOM MM) which will be held on Aug. 5, 2021 via videoconference.

This meeting will be chaired by H.E. Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States, pointed out the press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued today.

According to the same source, the meeting will see the participation of Ministers and representatives from other Mekong countries namely Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam, and members of the FoM policy dialogue including Australia, the European Union, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Mekong River Commission (MRC). Additionally, it is also expected that the representatives from India, the United Kingdom, and the current ASEAN Chair Brunei, will participate in the meeting as observers.

Under the theme “Recovery and Resilience”, the meeting will mark the 10th anniversary of the FoM cooperation mechanism by reviewing and setting activities and priorities of the cooperation in the coming year. It will also receive updates regarding the MRC’s Basin Development Strategy as part of the collaborative efforts in promoting inclusive and sustainable development for the benefits of stability, peace and prosperity in the Mekong sub-region and beyond.
