Cambodian, Japanese Army Chiefs Pledge Stronger Defence Ties Amid Regional Shifts

Phnom penh: The heads of the Cambodian and Japanese armies held a video conference on Thursday to reaffirm their commitment to deepening bilateral military cooperation, officials said Friday. General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, spoke with General Masayoshi Arai, Chief of Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF), to discuss strategic engagement.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the two commanders focused on several key pillars of cooperation. These included enhancing professional training programs and capacity-building initiatives, increasing the frequency of mutual visits to foster professional rapport, and strengthening collaborative frameworks for information sharing.

Both parties agreed to maintain a trajectory of closer relations, aiming to elevate the partnership between the two land forces to a more robust level amid evolving regional security dynamics.
