Beijing: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and China Energy International Group Co.'s Chairman, Mr. Qiao Xubin, recently discussed expanding China's investment in Cambodia, focusing on renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting took place during a courtesy call in Beijing, where PM Hun Manet is attending the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. Mr. Qiao expressed China Energy's keen interest in diversifying its investment portfolio in Cambodia, traditionally centered on engineering, procurement, and construction for major power infrastructure projects.
During the discussion, Mr. Qiao conveyed the company's plans to invest in sectors like cement production, water treatment, and renewable energy. In response, PM Hun Manet welcomed these plans, emphasizing the importance of clean energy development for his administration.
The Cambodian leader highlighted that the country currently derives around 62 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, with a target to increase this to 70 percent by 2030. He stressed Cambodia's desire to incorporate advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency of its power grid.
PM Hun Manet reiterated the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to supporting foreign investments and encouraged China Energy to collaborate with Cambodian ministries to ensure the successful implementation of future projects.
