Phnom penh: H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), engaged in discussions with a delegation from the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), led by its President Mr. Yasuto Watanabe, focusing on Cambodia's economic resilience and future outlook.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting in Phnom Penh on April 28 addressed the country's current economic landscape, its growth potential, and the challenges it faces. Mr. Yasuto Watanabe pointed out that although global challenges, such as geopolitical tensions and increasing fuel prices, pose risks, Cambodia's strong economic fundamentals and effective policy responses are vital in sustaining its growth trajectory.
The discussions emphasized the importance of maintaining confidence in the banking system, ensuring the quality of credit, and implementing necessary measures to support economic stability. Mr. Watanabe stressed that while challenges could slow growth, the country has the capacity to uphold a solid growth rate.
H.E. Dr. Chea Serey acknowledged the insights provided on the economic situation and shared government strategies aimed at developing the energy sector with a focus on stable supply sources and clean energy solutions. These efforts aim to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices. Additionally, she underscored the significance of expanding credit access for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and promoting sustainable finance as key priorities.
AMRO's role includes conducting macroeconomic surveillance, supporting regional financial arrangements, and offering technical assistance to its member countries.
