Phnom penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has clarified that Cambodia's participation as a founding member of the Board of Peace for a three-year term does not require any financial contribution. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Prime Minister revealed in a message on his social media that Cambodia agreed to join the Board of Peace following an invitation from U.S. President Donald J. Trump on January 16, 2026. The decision aligns with Cambodia's strong commitment to supporting and promoting global peace initiatives. The Prime Minister emphasized that Cambodia's foreign policy has consistently prioritized peace-loving values, goodwill, and active contributions to peacebuilding and peacekeeping efforts. This commitment is evident in Cambodia's history of deploying peacekeeping forces under the United Nations to assist conflict-affected countries. Addressing public concerns about potential financial obligations, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet assured that Cambodia's status as a f ounding member is financial obligation-free for the specified three-year term. He further explained that the US$1 billion contribution reported in media applies only to countries seeking permanent or long-term membership in the Board of Peace, not to founding members like Cambodia serving a fixed term.
