Jeddah: The Saudi Arabian Museums Commission inaugurated the Red Sea Museum in Jeddah, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Sunday. The museum is housed in the ancient Bab Al-Bunt building, located in Jeddah's Historic District, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This restoration is part of the broader Saudi Vision 2030 Quality of Life Program, aiming to adhere to sustainability standards for heritage structures.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Red Sea Museum features a collection of over 1,000 archaeological and artistic artifacts distributed across 23 exhibition halls. These halls are organized around seven main themes, encompassing navigational instruments, Chinese ceramics, rare manuscripts, photographs, and contemporary works by both Saudi and international artists.
The authorities emphasize that this project is expected to enhance cultural infrastructure and support sustainable urban development. Moreover, it aims to preserve the architectural character of Bab Al-Bunt and revitalize its historical significance as a gateway to the region.
