Thai Forces Continue Hostile Attacks Despite Cambodia’s Non-Retaliation

Phnom penh: Thai military forces have continued their aggressive attacks on Cambodian forces and civilians in multiple locations across Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, and Battambang provinces.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, from Dec. 7 until 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 8, Thai forces have repeatedly used heavy weaponry - including drones, F-16 fighter jets, tanks, and other armaments - to attack Cambodian territory.

The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia strongly condemned the actions of the Thai forces, stating that the use of force to alter the border line violates international law, as well as the ceasefire agreement and other agreements between the two countries, she added.

The Ministry of National Defence reaffirms its strong commitment to fully respect and implement the ceasefire agreement and the Joint Declaration on Peace Deal between Cambodia and Thailand. The Ministry will continue to work closely at all levels to promote practical cooperation, strengthen peace and stability between the two countries, and return to normalcy as soon as possible.

During the entire course of these attacks, the Cambodian forces have maintained their utmost restraint and did not retaliate at all. Cambodia remains strictly committed to respecting and implementing the ceasefire agreement, the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Declaration, and previous agreements between the two countries, based on the principles of resolving the disputes peacefully and in compliance with international law.
