Cambodia and UN Collaborate on 2030 Upper-Middle-Income Goal

Cambodia: Cambodia's goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030, along with issues of global peace and emerging energy security challenges, were key topics discussed between Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator to Cambodia.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate, stated that Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva and her delegation, expressing his hope that the United Nations would further strengthen cooperation and relations with Cambodia.

H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva highlighted the long-standing and strong partnership between Cambodia and the UN, reaffirming the organisation's readiness to continue supporting Cambodia, particularly in its efforts to achieve upper-middle-income status by 2030.

Samdech Techo expressed his appreciation for the UN's continued assistance and welcomed its commitment to supporting Cambodia's development goals.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. They exchanged views on global challenges, particularly the emerging issue of energy security linked to rising oil prices, which remains a concern for many countries, including Cambodia.

In addition, Samdech Techo reaffirmed Cambodia's contribution to maintaining global peace through its participation in UN peacekeeping missions. To date, Cambodia has deployed nearly 10,000 peacekeepers to various countries under the UN framework.

Climate change was also highlighted as a shared global concern requiring close cooperation between the UN and its member states.
