Cambodia and Viet Nam to Enhance Bilateral Ties and Cooperation

Phnom Penh:Cambodia and Viet Nam have agreed to enhance their bilateral relations and expand cooperation in key sectors as they prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the agreement was made during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Vietnamese Prime Minister H.E. Le Minh Hung at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh. This meeting took place during Le Minh Hung's official visit to Cambodia from October 9-10, 2026.

During the meeting, the Cambodian Prime Minister welcomed the Vietnamese delegation, acknowledging the visit as a sign of Viet Nam's commitment to strengthening their cooperation. He also congratulated Viet Nam on its economic achievements and expressed optimism about its future growth under its current leadership.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung reciprocated the warm welcome, stating that his visit aimed to bolster bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between the two nations. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current state of their relations and agreed to mark 2027 as the Cambodia-Viet Nam Year of Friendship, encouraging various activities to promote mutual understanding.

The two leaders discussed plans to elevate their relations and broaden cooperation in areas such as politics, defence, security, economy, trade, investment, and more. They emphasized the importance of youth exchanges and cooperation between border provinces to strengthen local ties.

Before concluding, Prime Minister Hun Manet updated his Vietnamese counterpart on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, reiterating Cambodia's commitment to peaceful resolutions based on international law.

The meeting concluded with the witnessing of the exchange of six cooperation documents, aimed at enhancing collaboration in areas including drug treatment, education, cultural heritage, security, and economic development.
