Phnom penh: Some 2,500 runners took part in a charity run Sunday in Phnom Penh, raising funds for children in Cambodian-Thai border areas whose education has been disrupted by past Thai incursions.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the event was organised by the Education Services Federation of Cambodia (ESFC) with backing from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. The "Run for Border Children's Education" was held at the Chip Mong Land 271 project site and sponsored by local conglomerate Chip Mong Group. All proceeds from the run will be directed to the education ministry to ensure that underprivileged children in the border regions remain in school and develop into essential human resources for national development.
Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron emphasized that the event was more than just a fundraiser. He described it as an inspiration for patriotism, solidarity, and national unity through sports. He encouraged citizens to maintain their health and unite for the benefit of Cambodia's next generation. The Minister expressed gratitude to Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet for their leadership in safeguarding sovereignty, ensuring peace, and supporting citizens and military personnel along the borders.
