Washington: The United States of America has announced a US$45 million aid package for Cambodia and Thailand, aiming to support displaced persons, demining initiatives, and the fight against scam centres. H.E. Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, delivered the announcement during a virtual press briefing.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the financial assistance will be divided into three main areas: US$15 million is earmarked for border stabilization and aid for displaced individuals, US$10 million is set aside for mine clearance efforts, and US$20 million is allocated for combating online scams, drug trafficking, and other transnational crimes. The package is still under discussion, with further details to be released shortly.
H.E. Michael George DeSombre is currently in Thailand and plans to visit Cambodian officials in Phnom Penh tomorrow to discuss the enforcement of the ceasefire.
