The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Cambodia in socio-economic development. While paying a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace here this morning, Ms. Samantha Power, USAID Administrator, praised the progress and good partnership between USAID and the Royal Government of Cambodia in many areas such as health (especially the fight against tuberculosis and malaria), food security, and demining. Ms. Power stressed that USAID will continue to cooperate with Cambodia in contribution to the Kingdom's socio-economic development and the enhancement of Cambodians' living standard.For demining, she will announce an investment of US$12 million to continue supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts to clear landmines and unexploded ordnance. For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his satisfaction with the good cooperation between the Royal Government and USAID, and thanked the American government and people for their support and assistance in rebuilding Cambodia since the beginning of the 1990s as well as for their contribution to the Kingdom's development. Samdech Thipadei and Ms. Power also discussed a number of initiatives to further strengthen and expand the cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and USAID in a number of key fields, including trade, investment, health, education, agriculture, good governance, security and law enforcement.
